Soft wax is great but i now prefer the less expensive harder and more glowing finish of minwax paste finishing wax.
Waxing wood after painting.
Fresh paint and clear coat may initially cure in a day or two but it can take 30 90 days to full harden and it needs time to breath.
Usually within 24 48 hours paint is solid enough you can handle it but that doesn t mean it is ready to wax.
Using a lint free cloth go over the waxed surface quite lightly in order to remove any excess wax.
It doesn t do much at all to repel water isn t hard or durable enough to protect the wood from dings and scratches and with a low melting point of about 140 degrees fahrenheit wax can easily melt.
Go over them with wax if so.
Work in large areas sweeping the wax over the paint.
After more drying time i painted the wood with two coats of home made chalk paint color matched to ascp s french linen.
Massage the wax into 1 section of the chalk paint.
If you work the brush from side to side be sure to follow the grain of the paint and wood.
Using an chalk paint wax brush or a lint free cloth apply chalk paint wax.
A paste wax wood finish looks great but isn t very protective.
For today s woodworker a paste wax wood finish of any kind may not be the best choice for protecting woodworking projects.
Work the brush in loose circular motions to distribute a thin layer of wax across the surface of the paint.
You are aiming to cover every bit of paint.
